Trotters Compete in Blair Andrew Memorial Final at CDPEC
Charlottetown, PE - The elimination winners have drawn outside post positions in the Blair Andrew Memorial Final Saturday at the Charlottetown Driving Park Entertainment Centre. The action gets underway at 7pm with the three-year old trotters scheduled to post at 9:20pm in a race that carries a purse of $8,144.
Saulsbrook Balance, owned and trained by Russell Newman, North Sydney, N.S., has been listed as the 2-1 morning line favorite for driver Walter Cheverie. The son of Nukes Image-ScarletNite was solid in his elimination heat but needs to mount his challenge from post 7 while Rustico Trisox and driver Joey Pineau plan strategy from post 8 for co-owners Myron Ford, Winsloe and John Pineau, Hunter River. The filly gets the attention from CDPEC racing analyst Les MacIsaac. “She’s starting this year the same way she did in 2007, on a winning streak,” said MacIsaac. “She needs three more to match last year’s total before she tasted defeat. She’s got a tough post to contend with but her chief rival is also stuck out here and with this one having gone at least three seconds faster in each of her starts she gets top call.”
The field also includes Major Danger, owned by David MacLeod, Winsloe, Super S Crosby, co-owned by Morah Kerr, Truro and trainer-driver Clare MacDonald, Antigonish, N.S., A Js Pride from the Dwight Larnkey stable in Black River Ridge, N.B., Miss Moe, owned by Gary and Connie Ross, Baddeck, N.S., Scarlet Destiny owned by Gordon MacLean, Winsloe and Jaimesgotthepower ,trained by Mitchel Tierney, New Haven.
The action packed card will also feature the Mildred Williams International Driving Series. Eight woman drivers will compete in the evening’s 5th race to raise money for the Canadian Breast Cancer Society. Harness Racing PEI will raise money for the foundation with a tarmac BBQ, bracelet campaign and fundraising games for patrons with great prizes. A special trackside presentation will be made later in the evening. Participating drivers include Canada’s all-time leading woman dash winner, Clare MacDonald, Islanders Ambyr MacPhee and Colleen Chappell, Tammy MacKay from Nova Scotia. The driving park will also welcome Anne Curran, event organizer from Ottawa, will fly in with Anne Karen Larsen and Elizabeth Jansen represent the province of Ontario while Quebec star Anne-Marie Turenne.
The action shifts to Summerside Raceway on Canada Day. Post time is 1pm.
