Summerside Hosts Canada Day Racing; Qualifiers on Friday

Summerside, PE – Harness Racing PEI has been told by Summerside officials that the Canada Day event will be ready to go at the Summerside Raceway.  The traditional program will go to post at 1pm on July 1.

 

This season marks the arrival of a brand new complex at the Summerside Raceway with horseman and horsewomen gearing up for Lobster Carnival Week from July 12 – 18 featuring the Atlantic Sire Stakes, Open Mares Final and the 41st running of the Governor’s Plate presented by the Journal Pioneer and the City of Summerside. Eliminations for the historic event will be staged on Sunday July 12 at 1pm and Monday July 13 with a 7pm post time. The big race, which was won by Outlawpositivcharg and Terry Gallant last year, is scheduled on the back half of a double header Saturday July 18, 2009.

 

Journal Pioneer and Harness Racing PEI will be launching special editions to celebrate the event including the return of the world broadcast following the race.

 

Qualifying sessions will continue at the Summerside Raceway this Friday at 6pm. For a complete listing the Island race dates from Summerside and Charlottetown go to www.harnessracingpei.com.

 

The track will be closed Saturday June 27 at 7:30am for grading.
