Harness Racing PEI Sports

Charlottetown, PE – Porthill Alf is one of the toughest competitors in Island racing. The veteran pacer pulled out an upset victory beating favorite Outlawpositivcharg by nose in 1:57.3 in the Saturday night feature at the Charlottetown Driving Park Entertainment Centre. The winning horse is owned by Marvyn Webster, Tyne Valley, trained by Duane MacEachern and driven by Michael Stevenson.
Outlawpositivcharg left hard from post 6 trying to establish control of the pace but Porthill Alf decided to take hi on through an opening quarter of 27.2 before releasing the former Governor’s Plate winner in rein to Terry Gallant. He then drafted behind the fraction setter through splits of :57 (half mile) and three-quarters in 1:28.1 before mounting the stretch drive where he caught Outlawpositivcharg at the line. Lakota Hall, co-owned by John Thompson, Charlottetown and driver Walter Cheverie was third.
Driver Brian MacPhee reached his 1500 career milestone winning with Incredible Mike in the 6th for owner Judy MacLeod, Cardigan. Harness Racing PEI, along with family members, were trackside to celebrate the milestone.
Gary Chappell recorded a driving double on the night.
