Charlottetown, PE – Island Jazzystar, in line to Corey MacPherson, was placed the official winner after Yankee Sun, who initially won the race, was placed third for interference on Pans O Silver in the feature race Saturday at Red Shores Racetrack & Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park. Mitchell Tierney owns the winner who was charted in 1:59 flat over a track rated good with a two second variant.
Fleet Officer and Tanks A Lot left hard off the gate and battled through an opening quarter mile of :28.2 with Tanks A lot taking command of the field heading towards the half mile marker which was charted in :58.2. Island Jazzystar was already on the move coming first over when Yankee Sun, under the command of Kenny Arsenault, moved off the pylons to follow his cover but Pans O Silver, with Brian MacPhee in the bike, was also tracking on the outside flow. The racing officials ruled interference.
Island Jazzystar raced past the three-quarter station in 1:28.1 but Yankee Sun chased him down in deep stretch to win with Pans O Silver finishing third. The ruling meant Yankee Sun was placed third behind Pans O Silver, who was placed second, and Island Jazzystar, who finished second, was made the winner triggering a $123.20 triactor in the process. Mighty and Strong was fourth with Fleet Officer fifth and Tanks A lot sixth. Lakota Hall was scratched.
MacPherson also drove Elnino Nico to victory in the 1 mile 5/16th event for owner Harold Hill of Breadalbane in a time of 2:46.3. Seawind Cockney, who led for most of the way, was second while Blue Meadow Xacta closed for third.
Marc Campbell. Mark Bradley and Brian MacPhee recorded multiple wins on the program. Campbell scored early with JC Riley in the third and Charlotte’s Hammy in the fifth. Bradley had back to back winning performances aboard Glengyle Vernon in the 10th and JJ Jaguar in the 11th. MacPhee posted victories late in program with Buck Barker in the 12th race and circled the field with Acesnassets to win the afternoon finale for owners Louis McIssac and Ron Gass of Cornwall.
Racing returns Saturday. Post time is 1pm.
