Charlottetown, PE – The annual Horsemen/Horsewomen’s day is set to go Saturday at Red Shores Racetrack & Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park. Post time for the 15 dash program, which includes the CDP driver’s championship, is 1pm.
The event, presented by the PEI Standardbred Horse Owners Association, is a customer appreciation day filled with prize draws, special presentations and eight of the park’s top drivers in three categories going after the championship crown.
The eight championship drivers are Kenny Arsenault, Marc Campbell, Gary Chappell and Brian MacPhee from the top wins category. Ron Matheson and Harold Sheppard represent the top two percentage drivers with over 75 drives while Shane Bernard and Norman Myers are the top two percentage drivers in the over 40 & less than 76 drives category. The eight leg championship begins on race 3 with Gary Chappell landing on morning line favorite Tracee RN trained by Harold Hill Breadalbane. The event is considered one of the biggest days on the fall/winter meet.
The feature presentation has an evenly matched 8 horse field in race 15. Pans O Silver, owned and trained by Alex MacPhee, Cornwall, has the rail and that has race analyst Les MacIsaac all over him. “With him landing on the pylons, Brian should be able to work out the trip of his choice,” explained MacIsaac. Alex’s son Brian will handle Pans O Silver while Brian’s daughter Ambyr takes Aahm Cruisin from post 6. She has a real shot in here too.
The field also includes Unfluffinbelievable, who has 6 wins over the campaign; Whos Smiling Now makes his 32nd start this season from post 3 followed by tough guy Rebelryan.
Negrito drew post 5 for Gary Chappell and trainer Stacy Lund while Fleet Officer, who was very impressive in his last start, has to leave from post 7. Trainer Elton Millar has entered Paphos from the Frank Banks stable of Summerside. Terry Gallant gets the driving assignment from post 8.
