Harness Racing PEI Sports

Charlottetown, PEThe Charlottetown Driving Park Entertainment Centre is ready to stage another exciting card of harness racing on Saturday. Post time is 7pm.

The $1,800 feature event has a top field of contenders vying for the lion’s share of purse money. Rigio Hanover, owned by Allan and Andrew Moore, Charlottetown, with Andrew Moore driving and The Joker, owned by Peter Smith and Larry Chappell, Charlottetown, are listed as the early favorites in the event scheduled for a 9:35pm post time. Kenny Arsenault, The Joker’s regular pilot, is committed to drive at Exhibition Park in Saint John so Mark Bradley gets the call to drive from post 4. Rigio Hanover is 2-1 on the morning line but Les MacIsaac, racing analyst with Harness Racing PEI, is going with The Joker at 4-1 odds. “I thought he was home free last time but he just ran out of steam late,” said MacIsaac. “He missed a start which left him off for a couple of weeks and now that he’s back on the seven day rotation he might have a little more left in the tank if he’s allowed to control his own destiny again.” Lincolns Legacy and Paul MacDonald have rail control with MS Prez, owned by Lawson and Ken MacEachern, Stratford, getting some draw luck from post 2. Ron Matheson will do the driving. There are some strong contenders in the field. Beckys Filly was second in her last start in 1:57.3. Jason Hughes will take over from Earl Smith who is also competing at EPR. Sis Ryan is always a major threat. Gary Chappell is in the bike while Hawaiian Legacy, with Jack Arsenault, and Rustleinthevines, with Irwin Neill, will have to work out a trip from the outside slots on the wings.

The Farmers Helping Farmers Pace will highlight race 9. Western Handover, trained by Ricky Burke, Hushs Last Money driven by Henry Smallwood and Rheingold, owned by David Kent, Hunter River and Robert Pierce, New Dominion, are listed as early favorites.
