Summerside, PE – Some of the best horses in the region have been entered into the Canada Day pace set for Summerside Raceway Wednesday July 1. Post time is 1pm.
The afternoon feature event has a field of eight with horses like San Marco Hanover, KG Affair, St Pete Star and Riccaras Sun, who recently competed in the Cecil Ladner Memorial invitational event, ready to battle for the purse money. The race also includes star pacers PH Super Dave, Ozzie, Pans O Silver and a newcomer to the Island racing circuit, Red Man. What makes the $2,400 so attractive is the draw. The starters will leave in this order: San Marco Hanover (PP1) Ryan Ellis, KG Affair (pp2) Gary Chappell, PH Super Dave (pp3) Dylan Andrew, Ozzie (pp4) Brian Andrew, Pans O Silver (pp5) Brian MacPhee, Red Man (pp6) Vaughn Doyle, St Pete Star (pp7) Danny Romo and Riccaras Sun.
The 13th annual Winnipeg Mile also highlights the card in the afternoon’s 6th race. Larry and Delores Reid have been coming to the Island to present their winning cooler for the last 12 years. They will keep the tradition going with a trackside presentation in the $1,000 fillies and mares event. Lincolns Legacy with trainer Jason Hughes in the bike, has been established the morning line favorite with Emersons Pajamas and driver Marc MacKinnon and JK Crusher trained by Alan Sweet also listed as favorites.
A familiar voice will not be in attendance for the opening day card. Track announcer Vance Cameron suffered a heart attack earlier in the week. The Summerside native, who also trains Elm Grove Dallas and Bando Gigi, will be out of the broadcast booth for the first couple of cards on the Summerside meet.
