Feature Race Too Close to Call

Charlottetown, PE – Island Jazzystar and Pans O Silver are the morning line favorites in the feature event Saturday at Red Shores Racetrack & casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park. There are two cards remaining before the season shuts down for the rest of the winter. Post time is 1pm.

Post position is key on a half-mile racetrack and Island Jazzystar has had some luck in that department drawing post three in his last three starts for driver Corey MacPherson and owner Mitchell Tierney, Cornwall. Last week, Island Jazzystar moved first over past the opening quarter and was just caught in the lane before being placed the winner on a set-back.

On the other hand, Pans O Silver has drawn poorly with six outside posts in as many starts but the Alex MacPhee owned-trained pacer has produced solid results including two second place finishes engineered by driver Brian MacPhee. Lakota Hall returns after being scratched last week for trainer Walter Cheverie while Yankee Sun, who was caught up in an interference call in his last event, has to navigate post 7 for the BM Stable, Grand-Digue, NB and trainer Kenny Arsenault. Arsenault’s other trainee, CL Eighty, will also compete with Jason Hughes in the bike. Watch out for Mighty and Strong, owned by Patrick Morris, Charlottetown, Tanks A lot, who showed some great gate speed last week, gets the services of Gary Chappell while McHales Gravy lands on the pylons for trainer Jamie Smith and driver Danny MacDonald.

Four horses on the program are perfect in the 2010 season. Bendoughlio, a three-year-old colt owned and trained by Patrick Murphy, Augustine Cove, is two for two for driver Donnie MacNeill while Jaguar Royal N, owned by Sandra Stead, Montague, and Elnino Nico, from the Harold Hill stable, sport the same record. Women of Steel has also launched the new season with a win for driver Ambyr MacPhee.

Cams Powerball will make his final start in race 3 for driver Stephen Quinn and owner John Quinn, Charlottetown. The 12-year-old campaigner registered 27 lifetime wins and earnings of $133,925.
