Summerside, PE – It was an action packed Friday at the Summerside Raceway as the historic property played host to the Bob Dewar Memorial for three-year-old pacing colts and the Erwin Andrew Memorial for open mares. Abby Best recorded the fastest mile of the night as the superstar stopped the timer in 1:54.4.
Extreme Measure, driven by Shane Bernard, won the opening division of the Bob Dewar Memorial for owner Charles MacLennan, Charlottetown and trainer Tom Weatherbie while Ultimate Success held off War Dancer to win the second division in 1:57.4 for trainer-driver Gilles Barrieau. Barrieau also guided Howmacs Dropnick to a 1:57.3 victory and Mr Pogge completed a driving triple for the N.B. based driver in the Bob Dewar Stakes with a 1:58.3 score.
But it was Maritime sensation Abby Best who stole the show. The mare, making her appearance in the Erwin Andrew Memorial, toured the oval in an impressive 1:54.4 for driver Clare MacDonald and owner-trainer Angus MacLean, Port Hood, N.S.
For The Luv Abunny took the other leg of the Erwin Andrew Memorial in 2:00 flat. Bernard McCallum did the driving for owner Jody Campbell, Sydney Mines, N.S.
Casual Motion, owned, trained and driven by Joey Pineau, Rustico, closed the night with a 1:58.3 victory turning back Real Bond and Star Style.
