Sydney, N.S. - Northside Downs played host to Atlantic Sires Stakes three-year-old pacing fillies on Saturday afternoon and Southview Spirit was victorious once again.

The filly owned by Elwood Lawton of Stratford, PEI, and Arleen Harris of Cornwall, PEI, won the $15,920 “A” division pace in a time of 2:00.3.  This is the fourth Atlantic Sires Stakes win for the filly this season. Walter Cheverie had the driving win.  Taking home second place honours was Larshegoes and third went to Elleofnxample.

Two “B” divisions of the three-year-old pacing fillies were also on the race card.  Island Quick Cash and driver Clare MacDonald won the first dash in a time of 2:03.  The second division went to Island Character and driver Terry Gallant in a time of 2:03.3.

Atlantic Sires Stakes action heats up again this week as Truro Raceway’s biggest week of harness racing gets underway.  Two and three-year trotters will meet for competition on Tuesday night during Atlantic Grand Circuit Week.  They will be joined on the race card by the two-year-old pacing fillies.  Post time on Tuesday is 7 pm.

Then on Thursday Atlantic Sires Stakes two-year-old pacing colts take to the Truro oval and the three-year-old pacing colts will meet on Saturday.

Points earned in each Atlantic Sires Stakes “A” division and trot event go towards securing a position in the season-ending Atlantic Breeders Crown championship weekend.  This year’s event will take place on Prince Edward Island October 10th and 11th.
